2021-22 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) now available

The 2021-22 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) launched on October 1.  New and returning students who plan to attend college between July 1, 2021, and June 30, 2022, should complete the FAFSA as soon as possible.  To assist students and parents in the process, the Department’s Office of Federal Student Aid (FSA) has been sharing tips on Twitter @FAFSA, and step-by-step instructions, documents needed, Q&A, etc.

Commission approves Tuition, Fees, and College Affordability Report

The Coordinating Commission approved the 2020 Tuition, Fees, and College Affordability Report at its September 10, 2020, meeting.  Nebraska law requires that a report on tuition and fees at public colleges and universities be submitted to the Governor and the Legislature’s Appropriations Committee every other year.  The 2020 report is a broad focus on college affordability as well as tuition and fees.  The report makes comparisons between Nebraska and all other states and between Nebraska institutions

Nebraska’s Public Colleges and Universities to Honor College Credit for 2020 AP Exams

Today, the University of Nebraska, the Nebraska State College System, and Nebraska’s community colleges announced that they will honor all existing transfer credit articulation for spring 2020 Advanced Placement Exams meeting campus AP subject area score requirements, assuring students that their hard work in AP this school year will be rewarded.  Read more.

Annual Progress Report Assesses Nebraska College Going and Completion, Makes Recommendations

On March 12, the Coordinating Commission reviewed and approved the 2020 Nebraska Higher Education Progress Report, which includes a wide variety of comparative measures over the past decade to monitor and evaluate progress toward achieving three priorities for Nebraska's postsecondary education system:

Department of Veterans’ Affairs opens application process for Veteran and Active Duty Supportive Designation for postsecondary institutions

The Department of Veterans’ Affairs has released the application for Nebraska postsecondary institutions that wish to be designated as “Veteran and Active Duty Supportive.”  The designation was created with the passage of LB 486, introduced by Senator John Lowe and co-sponsored by Senator Patty Pansing Brooks, which became effective September 1, 2019.  To receive the designation, a recognized postsecondary institution must submit an application

Governor Ricketts appoints Tim Daniels and Charles Garman to the Commission

Gov. Pete Ricketts has appointed two new commissioner to serve on the Coordinating Commission for Postsecondary Education. Timothy Daniels of Omaha, formerly of Gering, and Charles Garman of Omaha fill at-large positions with terms ending January 1, 2024.  Daniels and Garman were sworn in at the Commission’s September 26th meeting in Omaha.
