Governor Pete Ricketts has appointed two new members to the Coordinating Commission for Postsecondary Education.  Gene Kelly of Papillion will represent District 4.  Mr. Kelly brings a wide career background to the Commission, having been an Air Force officer and worked in systems engineering, financial analysis and management, and construction and general contracting among others.

Overall fall 2020 enrollments in Nebraska colleges and universities held mostly steady, with a slight decrease in undergraduate enrollment and a slight increase in graduate enrollments, though changes vary by campus and institution.  As in other states, Nebraska’s community colleges saw the largest declines in enrollment with a 5.6% decline overall.  That compares with a 9.5% decrease in community college enrollment nationwide, as reported by the National Student Clearinghouse.  Other sectors – the University of Nebraska, the Nebraska State Colleges, and Nebraska’s independen

The 2021-22 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) launched on October 1.  New and returning students who plan to attend college between July 1, 2021, and June 30, 2022, should complete the FAFSA as soon as possible.  To assist students and parents in the process, the Department’s Office of Federal Student Aid (FSA) has been sharing tips on Twitter @FAFSA, and step-by-step instructions, documents needed, Q&A, etc.

The Coordinating Commission approved the 2020 Tuition, Fees, and College Affordability Report at its September 10, 2020, meeting.  Nebraska law requires that a report on tuition and fees at public colleges and universities be submitted to the Governor and the Legislature’s Appropriations Committee every other year.  The 2020 report is a broad focus on college affordability as well as tuition and fees.  The report makes comparisons between Nebraska and all other states and between Nebraska institutions
