Nebraska's Coordinating Commission for Postsecondary Education

Gwenn Aspen of Omaha named new commission chair; Bernthal is vice chair

The Coordinating Commission for Postsecondary Education elected Gwenn Aspen its new chair at its May 20 meeting at Peru State College.  She will serve from July 1, 2021, to June 30, 2022.  Ms. Aspen has served as on the Commission since 2016 as an at-large member.  She is the founder and president of Anequim, which provides a variety of services to property management companies that improve their efficiency and profitability. In 2006 Gwenn and her husband started Wistar Group, a property management company in which she remains a principal and serves on the board.  Aspen is a native of Michigan and graduated with a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan.

The commission also voted for Dr. John Bernthal of Lincoln to serve as the vice chair during the coming year. Dr. Bernthal was appointed a commissioner in 2014, representing Nebraska Supreme Court Judicial District 1.  Before retiring in 2011, Bernthal was a professor and served as chair of the Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.  

The commission consists of 11 members - six representing the state's judicial districts and five at-large.
