Legislation Amends Door to College Scholarship Act to Add GED Award to Eligibility Criteria

LB306, which was passed by the Legislature and signed by the Governor on June 4, 2025, expands eligibility for the Door to College Scholarship to students who received a GED award or a high school diploma. The new criterion will go into effect in September 2025 and applies to students enrolling in the fall 2025 term. The Door to College Scholarship Program (DTC) provides up to $5,000 per year toward the educational expenses of undergraduate students enrolled at Nebraska postsecondary educational institutions who graduated high school from a Youth Rehabilitation and Treatment Center (YRTC), or from an approved or accredited public, private, nondenominational or parochial high school, or received a GED award after being discharged from a YRTC.
