The Coordinating Commission offers its deep condolences to the family of Dr. John Bernthal. Dr. Bernthal was appointed to the Coordinating Commission in 2014 by Governor Heineman, representing Nebraska Supreme Court Judicial District 1, which includes Lincoln. Dr. Bernthal had recently been elected vice chair of the Commission and had served on the Executive Committee and as chair of the Academic Programs Committee. Before retiring in 2011, Bernthal was a professor and served as chair of the Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. His service to his discipline included a term as President of the American Speech Language Hearing Association.
