An Omaha state senator has put forward a legislative resolution that calls for a study of dual enrollment in Nebraska.
Sen. Lou Ann Linehan on May 10 introduced Legislative Resolution 200, which directs the Legislature’s Education Committee to conduct a study of issues related to dual enrollment, specifically: costs associated with dual enrollment; who pays those costs; and how are high school and college credits awarded to dual enrollment students. The resolution has been referred to the Legislature's Executive Board.
The Coordinating Commission administers the Access College Early (ACE) scholarship program, which utilizes state funds to pay for low-income high school students to take dual-enrollment courses. In 2011, the Commission produced a report on dual enrollment in Nebraska, including a series of policy recommendations. A legislative bill (LB 637) directed the Commission to produce the report.
